responsAbility managed Climate Smart Food Systems Fund provides long term debt-financing for companies active in the agriculture value chain with the mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and climate vulnerability in the global food system while also fostering gender-responsive approaches. This fund’s strategy is built on the three pillars of climate-smart agriculture—climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, and sustainable production & consumption.

The fund provides financing to companies with operations ranging from sustainable intensification of production, value adding and efficient processing and logistics, sustainable and inclusive retail & food brands to climate technology solutions providers.

The fund has partnered with CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research) to back their strategies with scientific research. CGIAR comes with a global network of experts and knowledge spanning 50 years of building a track-record of continuous innovation and world class research. Their solutions address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.

The fund has a Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) with operations complimenting the objectives of the fund, advancing climate resilience and gender-inclusive agricultural practices through innovative, grant-funded projects. The goal of the TAF is to provide cutting-edge research and advisory to support the Fund in effectively enabling the necessary conditions to foster and multiply development impact. Through capacity building, portfolio companies are empowered to adopt best practices, meet regulatory and market expectations, and foster sustainable, inclusive growth

Through these companies in emerging economies the fund is working towards reducing climate emissions and improve resilience of companies against climate risks while having a positive impact on farmers livelihood and equal access and participation by women in economic activities.
